Malnourished: 10th-16th December

It is official: we are malnourished. At least that is the only explanation I can think of for our never ending colds, coughs and sheer exhaustion.  I have spent the week hankering after meat and have been dreaming about steak on a nightly basis.  As a great believer of our bodies knowing best, I have concluded that we have not been eating enough meat.  I am therefore on strike from the "reduced meat" aspect of the challenge this week:  while planning the week's menu I have pondered long and hard on how I can include a substantial carnivorous aspect to each meal.
The other reason for building up our very depleted energy levels is the impending Christmas holidays.   The men of this house are looking forward to stripping off their school uniform, setting aside the work briefcase and avoiding the hurly burly of nursery for a while. I am looking forward to it, of course I am.  Yet I am also aware that for the Dinner Ladies of this world, this fortnight will not exactly be a holiday.  There will be extra mouths to feed, more complicated meals to plan, excited bodies to calm and entertainment required on a scale that can be hard to achieve at times.

rotten or gone off - 2 jam tarts from a few weeks ago

left on our plates - 3 tbsp Monday lunch, most of steamed pudding, which was too soggy and revolting

left overs I have forgotten to use up - 4 tbsp mushroom pasta, Mrs Doubtfire got there before I could reheat!
