Delicious; Economical; Healthy (ish); Less wasteful; Easy; More ethically mindful; Family food

These are some of the words that come to mind when I plan, shop and cook for my family.  Yet it is tough to meet all of the above aspirations when we have three children, limited finances, increasing bills and little time.  In October 2011, after the arrival of a third child I set my family a challenge.  This is the story of how I try to reduce costs and waste in the kitchen and promote a healthy, delicious and, where possible, more ethical weekly menu to our growing family of Four and a half belliesSee our "Rules and Regulations" for specific details!

I am just a normal woman, trying to juggle many roles. Our kitchen and its inhabitants are not perfect, nor are my cooking skills.  I make many culinary errors. And I certainly do not claim to be a guru in ethical eating.  But this website charts the journey our family takes towards the challenge.

The blog maps out our journey, giving you a flavour of our culinary life and showing our favourite menus.  I am hoping that "going public" will help me keep a tighter reign on our spending.  Throughout each blog post there are links to the recipe section, where we share some of our favourite dishes.  I'm also keeping a beady eye on our kitchen waste and trying desperately to reduce it.
